Fraudsters in Bengaluru are staging accidents for false insurance claims. A dashcam video showed a man causing an accident in Whitefield, gaining 4.2 million views on Instagram.

Fraudsters have now resorted to a new way of making money by faking an accident in order to make false insurance claim. This scam known as “crash for cash” is reportedly prevalent at many places, including in Bengaluru.
Recently, a video recorded on a dashcam showed a man applying the same technique of the scam where an accident is staged. A video recorded in Whitefield area of Bengaluru displayed a man deliberately coming in front of a moving car to stage an accident. Two bike-borne men were reportedly involved in this fraud as they halted near the spot and began confronting the car driver as he kept driving the car.
The footage was shared on Instagram and it has garnered 4.2 million views so far. This incident has raised concerns among motorists and also highlighted a need for dashcams in vehicles.
What Is ‘Crash For Cash’ Scam?
The “crash for cash” scam is a fraudulent scheme where in fraudsters deliberately stage or provoke car accidents to make false insurance claims.
They may also cause a collision by suddenly slamming on their brakes, often at busy road. They sometimes even connive with their aides who drives erratically in front of an unsuspecting driver. Their aim is to create chaos that would forces an innocent motorist into a collision, making him eligible for a lucrative insurance claim. In some cases, they even disable their brake lights or exaggerate injuries to solidify their case.
