HYBE Faces Backlash Over TWS Merchandise Release, Fans Demand A Design Overhaul

HYBE’s latest merchandise drop for TWS has left fans more frustrated than excited. Instead of celebrating new releases, many took to social media to voice their disappointment over what they felt was a lacklustre design effort. On February 4, HYBE’s official merchandise account released a lineup of school-themed products for TWS. The collection featured clothing, varsity jackets, photocard holders and more. While some appreciated the cute aesthetic, the overwhelming response from fans was far from positive.

Many were quick to criticise the designs, calling them uninspired and repetitive. Some even joked that HYBE had unintentionally done them a favour by making it easier to save money. Others went a step further, urging the company to revamp its design team entirely.

“I ended up looking at the model more than the merch,” another admitted.

“Please change the design team,” one commenter pleaded.

“Thanks for helping me save money,” someone quipped.

This isn’t the first time HYBE has faced criticism over its merchandise.

Back in June 2024, HYBE made a major announcement on Weverse, revealing the Festa schedule along with a new set of fan merchandise. The collection featured oversized T-shirts, zip-up hoodies, phone cases, and bucket hats. Fans were initially excited, especially with the option to customize items with solo member labels or specific designs. However, that excitement quickly turned to disappointment when they saw the actual products. The designs were widely criticised for being too plain, with many feeling that the high price tags weren’t justified by the lack of effort.

“Whoever is in charge of creative direction for BTB, be it for merch or posters or group album concepts, needs to be fired and replaced by 2025 and I’m so serious,” reacted a viewer.

“$90 for that ugly hoodie? Even if there was no boycott going on, no one should be paying this much for something so basic,” said another one on X.

Once again, HYBE finds itself under fire for merch that doesn’t seem to meet fans’ expectations. Whether the company will take this feedback into account for future releases remains to be seen.
