Security forces seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Manipur’s Bishnupur district, police said on Saturday. The arms and ammunition were seized during a search operation in the Aigejang area of the district on Friday. The seized arms and ammunition include one .303 rifle, one bolt action rifle, one .22 pistol with magazine, a 9 mm pistol, two SBBL rilfe, the police said.
Five hand grenades, one Chinese hand grenade, four 40 mm Lethod grenades, one long-range modified mortar shell, two 2-inch mortar shells with carrier, two tear gas grenades and one smoke grenade was also seized, the police added.
Manipur has been rocked by ethnic violence since May 2023.
Last year, the Manipur Police had recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives during search operations at two villages in Churachandpur district. Fake currency notes with a total face value of Rs 1,200 were also seized from there.
During another search operation, a police team recovered 10 guns, eight gelatin sticks and ammunition from Moljang village in Churachandpur, the statement issued by the police control room said.
In a separate operation, three persons were arrested from Keisampat junction in Imphal West district after two SLR rifles were seized from their possession, an officer said.
