Soon after it was reported that Triptii Dimri would no longer be a part of Kartik Aaryan starrer Aashiqui 3, rumours about the actress’ exit began to float on social media. It was said that Triptii was removed as the makers felt she had become ‘too exposed’ to be cast in the romantic film; the role demanded ‘purity in demeanour’ from the female lead. It was also rumoured that her bold image in Animal made it hard for her to fit into the Aashiqui world. Director Anurag Basu refuted these claims and in a new chat, opened up about the major reason behind Triptii’s exit.

Anurag Basu told the Hindustan Times, “Image was not the reason. I am the last person to judge an actor on the basis of the other characters they have played on screen. Aashiqui was not even the story anymore… I don’t know the source of these stories which came out.”

He added, “The most important thing is dates. Triptii is shooting for a film with Vishal Bhardwaj, and my film goes on floors this month too. She is still my best friend, I really like her as an actress. You should ask her too what happened.”

The filmmaker also gave an update on the untitled project and said that the female lead will be announced soon. He mentioned, “I don’t know what’s the film called right now, the shoot starts this month. We have not finalised the female lead right now, it will be announced in a week.”

Kartik Aaryan officially announced Aashiqui 3 in September 2022. Taking to Instagram, the actor shared a sneak peek with the caption: “Ab Tere Bin Ji Lenge Hum, Zeher Zindagi Ka Pi Lenge Hum. Aashiqui 3. This one is going to be heart-wrenching!! My first with Basu Da.” The announcement immediately generated excitement among fans. However, due to problems with the original makers of the franchise, Anurag switched lanes from the Aashiqui route and he film is no longer a part of the franchise.

Alongside the untitled film, Anurag Basu is also working on Metro In Dino, the sequel to his 2007 hit, Life in a Metro. This anthology film features an ensemble cast, including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, and Konkona Sen Sharma, promising a blend of captivating stories and standout performances. Meanwhile, Triptii Dimri has moved on to Vishal Bhardwaj’s Arjun Ustara. While the film was also supposed to initially star Kartik Aaryan, it is now being headlined by Shahid Kapoor.
