Nand Kishor Gurjar sparked a stir by opening a vegetable shop on the roadside in protest against the Ghaziabad Police’s decision to shut down weekly markets
BJP MLA from Ghaziabad’s Loni, Nand Kishor Gurjar, on Thursday sparked a stir by opening a vegetable shop on the roadside in protest against the Ghaziabad Police’s decision to shut down weekly markets across the district
Gurjar’s decision to sit on a dharna and sell vegetables has caught widespread attention on social media, with videos showing him on a stool, speaking to the gathered crowd about his reasons for the protest.
In the viral videos, Gurjar can be seen surrounded by onlookers as he explains why he is protesting the police’s decision to close down weekly markets.

Slamming the Ghaziabad Police’s decision to close the weekly markets, he called the move as a “Tughlaqi Farman,” referring to it as a draconian order that harms the local community, NDTV reported.
“The Ghaziabad Police has prohibited the setting up of weekly markets through this order. In protest against this, I am selling vegetables on the road,” he told the crowd.
The Loni MLA also raised concerns about the impact of the decision on the livelihoods of local vendors, claiming that over one lakh people in Loni rely on these weekly markets for their income.
He further accused the Ghaziabad Police of causing unnecessary trouble for the poor, suggesting that,” this has been done with the aim of causing trouble for the Bharatiya Janata Party during the Delhi elections.”
In response, the Ghaziabad Police defended their decision, explaining that the closure of weekly markets was necessary to improve road transportation and ease traffic congestion. They added that arrangements had been made to move the markets to vacant areas, ensuring that the local residents were not disrupted by the changes.
“Local residents near the weekly market locations had complained that road congestion caused by the markets hindered medical emergencies and everyday travel,” the police said.
