Following a 27-year hiatus, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a comeback in the national capital, giving a massive defeat to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which ruled the city for a decade.
The BJP wave has dominated the East Delhi District as well by winning over five out of six seats. Meanwhile, the AAP could claim only one.
In the East Delhi district, which comprises of six assembly constituencies, the BJP has won five seats, including Krishna Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Trilokpuri, Patparganj, Gandhi Nagar while AAP secured Kondli.

BJP candidate Dr Anil Goyal clenched the Krishna Nagar assembly seat. While BJP’s Abhay Kumar Verma won Laxmi Nagar seat. On the other hand, Ravi Kant won the Trilokpuri assembly seat. Saffron party candidate Ravinder Singh Negi won in Patparganj. Arvinder Singh Lovely of BJP registered victory in Gandhi Nagar vidhan sabha. The Kondli seat was won by AAP’s Kuldeep Kumar.
Delhi Assembly elections were held in a single phase on February 5 and the counting of votes took place today, February 8.
According to the Election Commission data, the BJP registered a resounding victory in the national capital, securing 48 seats. In contrast, the ruling AAP suffered a major blow, winning only 22 seats.
The Delhi Legislative Assembly comprises 70 seats, and political parties need to cross majority mark of 36 seats to form a government.
