Rohit Sharma joined legendary MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in an elite list of Indian captains on Sunday, February 9, by becoming the eighth cricketer to lead the Men in Blue in 50 ODIs matches. The second ODI of the ongoing three-match series between India and England at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack is Rohit’s 50th ODI match as India captain. In 49 ODIs played so far, Rohit has led India to win in 35 matches. His win percentage is 70.00, which is the best for any Indian who has led in 10+ matches.

Dhoni has captained India in 200 ODI matches, which is the most, and he is followed by Mohammad Azharuddin (174), Sourav Ganguly (146), Virat Kohli (95), Rahul Dravid (79), Kapil Dev (74), and Sachin Tendulkar (73).

The 37-year-old right-handed batter has been out of form for quite some time now. In the first ODI against England, he could only manage to score 2 runs from seven balls.

If India manages to beat England in the second ODI, then Rohit will break Ganguly’s record and become India’s fourth most successful captain in international cricket. Rohit has won 97 out of 135 matches played so far as Indian captain across formats. Ganguly finished his captaincy stint with 97 wins in 195 matches (Tests and ODIs combined) for India.
