Loveyapa, starring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, earned Rs 1.33 crore on its opening day. Directed by Advait Chandan, it faces competition and mixed reviews for uneven pacing.
A still from Loveyapa.
Looks like Loveyapa is off to a bit of a cautious start at the box office! The much-awaited romantic drama starring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor minted Rs 1.33 crore on its opening day, February 7, 2025. While that’s not exactly a jaw-dropper, hey — every love story takes its time to bloom, right?
Early buzz suggests that Loveyapa could pick up momentum over the weekend, especially if lovebirds and rom-com fans make their way to the theaters. Loveyapa is directed by Advait Chandan.
According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Loveyapa has earned Rs 1.33 crore on Friday. The film is battling tough competition from Himesh Reshammiya’s high-octane action flick Badass Ravikumar and the massive regional hit Vidaamuyarchi, starring Ajith Kumar. With audiences spoiled for choice, it remains to be seen if Loveyapa can charm its way to a stronger box office run in the coming days.
Loveyapa saw strong promotions as Junaid’s father and Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was rooting for him. Meanwhile, Khushi Kapoor’s sister, Janhvi Kapoor, also gave her shoutouts.
Loveyapa follows the chaotic yet heartfelt journey of Gaurav (Junaid Khan) and Baani (Khushi Kapoor), whose picture-perfect romance hits turbulence when Baani’s no-nonsense father (Ashutosh Rana) throws down a wild challenge — swap phones to prove their love. As hidden messages and unexpected secrets come to light, Gaurav and Baani are forced to confront their pasts, testing the limits of their communication and trust. Adding to the drama (and laughter) is the ever-entertaining Kiku Sharda.
A remake of the 2022 Tamil hit Love Today, the film promises a rollercoaster of emotions, twists, and plenty of relatable relationship drama.
Loveyapa received mixed reviews. An excerpt from News18’s review of the film reads, “While it may be wrong to compare two films, you can’t realty help it. Director Advait Chandan really tries to make Loveyapa soar and yet it lacks the rooted quotient and raw texture of Love Today. You’ll never really find yourself rooting for either Gaurav or Baani. Love today’s biggest win was its effortless and seamless messaging. And despite its 2-hour-and-34-minute long runtime, you never mind its pace because each frame and sequence is packed with richness in terms of novelty, colour, vibe and mood. The same, however, cannot be said about Loveyapa. The first half fails to pack a punch. But if you manage to sit through it, you’ll find yourself being impressed with the second half.”
