India Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma’s habit of forgetting his things isn’t a news. Plenty of his India and IPL teammates have talked about his tendency to forget things. During the Naman Awards 2024 hosted by BCCI to recognise the performances of India cricketers, a query by Smriti Mandhana on hobby that Rohit has picked up recently that annoys his teammates drew widespread laughter.
“I don’t know. They tease my about forgetting. Obviously, it’s not a hobby but this is what they tease me about – that I forget my wallet, passport – which is absolutely not true. That happened a couple of decades back.
Mandhana then posed a follow up question, ‘What’s the biggest thing you’ve ever forgotten?’
“I can’t say that!” came Rohit’s reply resulting in more laughter. “If this is coming live, my wife will be watching, and I can’t say that. I will keep that to myself.”
Rohit along with a host of top India cricketers attended the annual awards in Mumbai during which Jasprit Bumrah won the men’s cricketer of the year 2023-24 award while Smriti Mandhana picked the corresponding award in women’s category.
“It’s always nice to get together as cricket fraternity and share your thoughts over what has happened throughout the year. Lot of players who have performed well get rewarded. I remember the last one in Hyderabad, now in Mumbai,” Rohit said.
The 37-year-old will be leading India in the upcoming three-match ODI series followed by the Champions Trophy later this month.
When quizzed about India’s impending clash with Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, Rohit said, “I think in the past 2-3 years, I’ve spoken a lot about it – it’s just a game. No special mention of that game from at least us.”
