Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s simple post on X (formerly Twitter) informing about losing his phone and contacts took a completely unexpected turn as fans flooded his replies with hilarious jokes and one-liners.

“I have lost my phone and contacts. Will get back to everyone as soon as I find it,” Babar wrote on X.

While some fans expressed concern about the cricketer’s situation, others saw the funny side of it. Most sarcastically wrote, “This too shall pass,” — the same word that Babar wrote in a message for his Indian counterpart, Virat Kohli, when the Delhi-born was going through a rough international patch.

Babar Azam set to open in Champions Trophy

After a couple of tough years with captaincy and personally with a lack of runs, the upcoming home Champions Trophy 2025 will be a crucial tournament for Babar’s legacy. As per reports, he’s also likely to approach it from a different batting position — opening. Generally a middle-order batter, Babar has seemingly been urged to take the promotion after the injury to youngster Saim Ayub.

“A day after Saim got injured it became clear that he would be out of cricket for at least two months making him an unlikely starter for the Champions Trophy,” news agency PTI quoted a source as saying. “The selectors told Babar they felt he could also emulate what Tendulkar had done as an opener as he had already opened a lot in T20 cricket,” he said.

Pakistan’s campaign will start on February 19 against New Zealand in Lahore. The 2017 champions are in Group A for the group stage alongside New Zealand, India and Bangladesh.
