For the locals, this tree is a divine gift. They tie notes or Kalava around it as part of their prayers. Some also consider it a tree used for sentencing criminals to death.
What Scientists Believe
Scientists believe that this tree is actually a banyan tree. When the branches of a banyan tree touch the ground, they develop roots called prop roots. These roots provide both water and nutrients to all the branches of the tree. They are so strong that even if older branches break, they can still support the weight of the tree. This is why the tree continues to stand today.
History of Samadha Temple
According to mythology, Baba Jagannathpuri ji used to meditate under this tree. In 1586 AD, when Baba Jagannathpuri ji Maharaj camped in Hansi, at that time there were no Hindus left in the area. Locals believe he meditated under this tree and later took Samadhi at this very spot.
