Global pop sensation Ed Sheeran is set to mesmerise Chennai audiences for the first time on February 5 at the YMCA Grounds in Nandanam. The much-awaited concert is part of his ongoing +–=÷× Tour (Mathematics Tour), which kicked off in 2022 and is organised by AEG Presents Asia and BookMyShow Live.
Fans can expect a one-of-a-kind musical experience, as Sheeran is known for his unique live performances using a loop station. And before setting the stage on fire in Chennai on February 5, he’s soaking in the local experiences — literally! The global pop sensation was recently spotted enjoying a good ol’ Indian champi (head massage), and it looks like he absolutely loved it. With a big grin on his face and some expert hands working magic on his curls.
In the clip, a local masseuse is seen working his magic, rhythmically tapping Sheeran’s head. The singer, meanwhile, looks equal parts amused and delighted, making exaggerated faces as the massage works its way through his scalp. But despite the seemingly rough technique, Sheeran is clearly enjoying every bit of this authentic Indian experience.
The champi, a traditional head massage often involving generous amounts of oil, has been an age-old wellness practice in India, known for its stress-relieving and hair-nourishing benefits. From grooving to Bollywood songs to getting a desi-style head massage, Sheeran is proving once again that he knows how to make the most of his time in India.
Ed Sheeran will bring back his rap roots with a high-energy performance of You Need Me, I Don’t Need You, a fan favourite from his early career. Singer Jonita Gandhi will open the Chennai concert with a mix of Bollywood hits, indie music, and international tracks. Sheeran has already performed in Pune on January 30 and Hyderabad on February 2 at Ramoji Film City. After Chennai, he will head to Bengaluru, Shillong, and Gurugram.
