Ed Sheeran’s Chennai concert became a night to remember when the pop icon called legendary composer AR Rahman on stage, leaving fans in awe. The unexpected collaboration saw the duo performing a captivating mashup of Sheeran’s global hit Shape of You and Rahman’s classic Urvasi Urvasi.
As Ed played the catchy beats of Shape of You, Rahman took over with the iconic chorus of Urvasi Urvasi, creating an electrifying fusion. The crowd erupted in cheers as the two musical powerhouses harmonized, seamlessly blending their styles. Sheeran later returned to his hit track.
Before the concert, Ed Sheeran met AR Rahman and his son AR Ameen. Rahman took to Instagram to share candid pictures of their meeting. One snapshot captured the three sitting on a couch, while another featured Rahman working at his music console as Sheeran snapped a photo. “Photos by Ed Sheeran,” Rahman humorously credited the images in his caption.

Sheeran’s Chennai performance was part of his six-city India tour for The Mathematics series, which kicked off in Pune on January 30. The opening act featured singer-actor Dot., best known for her role in The Archies. The British sensation then headed to Hyderabad, where he performed at Ramoji Film City on February 2 with singer Armaan Malik opening the show.
With stops in cities like Bengaluru, Shillong, and Delhi, Sheeran’s India tour has already created a massive buzz. However, the Chennai concert remains one of the most talked-about moments, thanks to Rahman’s surprise appearance.
