Police have uncovered further evidence in the case of the attempted molestation of a hotel employee in Mukkam in Kerala’s Kozhikode. This evidence suggests that the hotel owner threatened the woman following the alleged assault.
A woman employed at the hotel in Kerala filed a police complaint alleging sexual harassment by the hotel owner. The woman accused the hotel owner of subjecting her to sexual harassment.
The owner of the Mukkam Sanketham hotel, Devdas, had sent messages to the employee via WhatsApp, expressing sexual desires. Devdas, who repeatedly apologised for his behaviour, sent the threatening message after the woman was injured and hospitalised. The threat was, ‘This is your first dose’.
The messages were sent after the woman informed Devdas that she was resigning from her job. Her resignation followed several instances of his inappropriate behaviour and a subsequent apology.
Devdas assured her that there would be no further misconduct on his part. His messages stated that their interactions would remain strictly professional and requested a final chance. He also instructed her, “Do not return the money lent.” The WhatsApp message further included the phrase, “you are the angel of the Sanketham”.
The young woman, who had initially believed Devdas’s assurances and continued working, received further messages from him within days. These messages expressed his sexual interest and included descriptions of her body. The messages also clearly show the young woman repeatedly asking him to stop this inappropriate behaviour and refrain from sending such messages.
When subjected to escalating harassment from Devdas, the young woman threatened to inform his wife. In response, Devdas, accompanied by his employees, arrived at her residence, where they issued threats and attempted to rape her.
In a desperate bid to escape, the young woman jumped from the first floor, sustaining serious injuries. While she was receiving treatment in hospital, Devdas sent her a message stating, “This is your first dose”. Two subsequent messages were deleted.
Devdas, apprehended in Kunnamkulam while evading authorities, has been remanded in custody. Two of his accomplices, Suresh and Riyas, surrendered to the Thamarassery court. Police intend to take the accused into custody for further interrogation. The accused are currently facing charges of home invasion and insulting the modesty of women.
