Republican senators offered mixed reactions to US President Donald Trump’s plan to turn the Palestinian Gaza Strip into the “Riviera Of The Middle East” plan by bringing the wartorn coastal enclave under US control.

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky said he “thought we voted for American First”, referring to Donald Trump’s electoral campaign promise to prioritise the US in every situation when asked about Donald Trump’s proposal, according to Forbes.

South Carolina GOP veteran Lindsey Graham said the plan was problematic. “We’ll see what our Arab friends say about that,” he said, adding that he will keep an “open mind”.

“I don’t know that I think it’s the best use of United States resources,” Montana Republican senator Josh Hawley said, highlighting that the US should not send troops to Gaza Strip.

President Donald Trump’s proposal for the US to take over war-torn Gaza and create a “Riviera of the Middle East” after resettling Palestinians elsewhere has shattered US policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, sparking widespread condemnation from international quarters.
